Can your taste in music affect you as a person? From what I have seen in our society, my opinion is yes, the type of music you listen to can greatly impact you and who you are. I myself listen to a wide variety of music such as alternative, dance, electronic, and dubstep to name a few. This reflects a lot in the way I act, what I wear and who I hang out with. I tend to hang out with people who have similar interests as me, including music taste. I don't really enjoy listening to pop music so I tend not to hang around people who have a taste in pop music because we don't always have the same interests.
The music you listen to can affect the way you dress. Some of my friends listen to a lot of metal, grunge, and punk and dress like the people who play in those kinds of bands. They dress mostly in black, and wear punk style clothes. In these cases, you can sometimes tell what music people listen to by just looking at their appearance. Sometimes people try and judge what styles of music other people listen to based on what they know about them. From personal experience, I've been judged that way before. People thought I listened to a lot of orchestral music because of my interests and the way I dressed. When I told them my actual music taste, they seemed surprised at how wrong their prediction was.
There are a lot of stereotypes involved with a persons taste in music. Some people automatically associate a style of music with a certain lifestyle and certain personality traits and dressing style. For example, some people associate rap music with snap-back hats, low-riding, and drugs. In some cases, this stereotype is accurate, but it doesn't necessarily mean that everyone who acts this way listens to rap music or everyone who listens to rap music acts this way. It is just a generalized stereotype based on there peoples opinions. If you look up rap on google images, you can see the majority of the stereotypes associated with this genre of music. You could probably do the same with any other genre.
Society provides us with a lot of unfair and inaccurate stereotypes about peoples tastes in music and people take these stereotypes as the truth and base their own opinions on them. We should try to develop our own opinions based on our own experiences and ideas instead of the experiences of others. Also, never let these stereotypes influence you to change your personality and how you dress.
